At Key Stage 4 & 5 the intent is to further develop this interest into a strong theoretical knowledge in sport and physical activity to enable students to develop their interest and prepare them for academic sporting destinations or in the job sector at a higher level. The Key Stage 3 curriculum is designed to enable students to experience a broad range of activities that enable them to develop their physical skillset, their leadership and social qualities and enable them to develop a lifelong interest in physical activity and sport. This curriculum provides students with the basis to develop their skills and mind-set towards physical education and to progressively improve their ability to produce required skills in different sports, take responsibility for their own learning and develop key personal skills that can help them in their wider school experience. Students will understand the underlying principles of the mathematics they learn, making links and developing reasoning and problem-solving skills. Students will become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, so that they develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately. Students will progress towards being independent mathematicians who can identify correct and incorrect work for themselves. It is personalised to each student and consists of tasks on recently studied work as well as some consolidation work based on prior learning. The more learning that students complete on Sparx Maths, the better the personalisation will become. We offer Sparx Club after school each Thursday in the library. Students can attend to complete home learning with support from Maths teachers. Students are welcome to stay to complete all of their home learning or simply drop in to get help with a small part of it. Year 11 home learning is more varied depending on the needs of the class and may be paper based or include Sparx Maths. However, all Year 11 students are encouraged to use Sparx Maths as part of their independent study and revision, as it is an excellent way to support and consolidate their classroom learning. Co-opted governors are appointed by the Governing Body and are people who, in the opinion of the governing body, have the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school. The term of office for our Governors is four years. The full Governing Body is chaired by Andrew Elliott and meets once per term, and we also have a number of sub-committees to consider different aspects of the school in detail. The full governing body has delegated authority to each sub-committee to plan and make decisions in line with their subject scope. Both the subject scope and any decisions are ratified at the full governing body. The sub-committees that meet termly are Personnel, Curriculum, Post-16 and Finance, Premises and Health and Safety. This is driving us to continually build on our current CEIAG provision to ensure that all students are informed about the options available to them both on a local and national level. Library opening times: Monday to Thursday - 8:00am to 4:30pm Friday - 8:00am to 4:00pm Students must have permission to be in the Library during lesson time. Every breaktime and lunchtime it is open for students to complete home learning, coursework and to choose and return books. Resources The Library has an excellent range of Fiction and Non-Fiction Books for all ages and abilities. There is a Reference Section housing various magazines. We offer a range of activities, clubs and events at lunch, after school and throughout the year. Membership All students are automatically members of the library and are allowed to borrow 3 items at one time for a period of 4 weeks. One of these books must be their Accelerated Reading Book Reading All Year 7 and 8 students will participate in a reading program. The NGRT program is a computerised program that tests reading comprehension. Students select books on their reading level, which is determined by an assessment. The books are read independently and once finished a comprehension test is taken on the computer. Each book is worth a certain amount of points based on its length and reading level. This enables both the Librarian and English Staff to monitor the progress of each student and guide them to appropriate books for their level and interest.
